Lymes: Are you in any risk? Is Lymes Infectious?

Now, that you know what Lymes is, it is imperative to understand who can contract this disease. All living beings including adults, teen, children, even animals such as dogs, cats who walk or pass through grass or dense, rough vegetation can contract this disease.

The ticks of Lymes dwell almost anywhere in parks, playgrounds, zoo and meadows. Hence, small kids playing in the garden and people who spend more time outdoors are at greater risk of acquiring this disease.

I also found that country people like cattlemen, who take their animals such as sheep, deer to graze in meadows are more prone to this Lymes. Most individuals contract this infection particularly during June to August. As this is the breeding season of nymphs.

However, researchers say that the risk of contracting Lymes exists even in the populated areas. The expansion of human population in the forest areas has led to migration of these ticks into human habitat as well. Thus, people like me who step out occasionally to play a game of golf, baseball and tennis in midst of nature may also contract Lymes. Because of this, the probability of transmission of Lymes to residents has increased significantly.

When I made detailed Lymes study, I came to know that people residing in states such as Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Wisconsin, and New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey mostly contract the Lymes .

Is Lymes Infectious?

As, I have said earlier Lymes is not at all infectious or contagious. This disease never transmits from one individual to other. The possibility of developing this disease depends on person’s vulnerability to ticks. Lymes does not spread through personal contact or even if a person uses towels or clothes of an infested person.

In exceptional cases, if a woman contracts Lymes during pregnancy, there are chances that the fetus might get affected with it. Therefore, pregnant women who are concerned about Lymes may consult their doctors.

Pet animals such as dogs, cats, deer if infested with this Lymes Bacteria, may transmit infected ticks to human areas as well. Thus, if you are raising animals at home, you need to talk about it with veterinarians.

Discuss with them about what sort of vaccines, tick control medicines and further protective measures you need to take, for your domestic animals. Thus, Lime is not contagious but be careful while venturing out in woods as Lyme ticks can infect you anywhere, anytime.
